Can another person act on my behalf concerning housing issues?
Personnel acting on behalf of the military member must provide the appropriate Power of Attorney.
Can I apply for only certain types of housing on this base?
Members are permitted to exercise a personal preference option at the time they submit their application for FH or may elect to express their option on arrival at the installation. Further, housing preferences may be changed at any time. However, a change in preference option is not allowed in lieu of a turndown. A member who is assessed a turndown may change his or her options before being offered a second dwelling.
Can my name be "bumped" on the waiting list?
Except for the assignment of key and essential personnel and hardship cases, the top ten percent of each waiting list is protected from bumping (frozen).
Can my name be on the family housing waiting list if I am in a lease on the local economy?
Yes. The Florida Statutes - Title VI, Section 83 - Termination of rental agreement by a service member, paragraph (1) (d), provides the legal basis for service members to terminate their rental agreement for the purpose of moving into government quarters. It states, "Any service member may terminate his or her rental agreement by providing the landlord a written notice of termination to be effective on the date stated in the notice that is at least 30 days after the landlord's receipt of the notice." It further states, "The notice to the landlord must be accompanied by either a copy of the official military orders or a written verification signed by the service member's commanding officer." If you intend to apply for base housing, you are encouraged to pick up a copy of the referenced Statutes from the Housing office and present it to your landlord at the beginning of the lease to avoid any complications when you attempt to terminate.
Can we be assigned housing on a priority basis due to medical issues or being reassigned to this area due to humanitarian reasons?
Housing Flight Chiefs can approve out-of-turn assignment when hardship conditions exist. The member is assigned the next uncommitted unit in the appropriate category that satisfies the requirement. A turndown option is not allowed.
Does an increase in rank or an increase in number of dependents mean that I have to change to a new waiting list?
Yes. If the gaining additional entitlement is within 12 months, you may apply for family housing commensurate with the new entitlement before the effective date of the event. You will be bypassed for assignment until the event occurs. In situations where the loss or gain of a dependent changes the bedroom entitlement, the member should be allowed to transfer to the new waiting list using the same date of application as the original waiting list from which being transferred.
Does the government stop my BAH the date I accept an offer of a government housing?
The effective date of assignment (the day the member picks up the keys) to FH is the date BAH stops.

How can I view my progress on the waiting list?
Housing management keeps a current waiting list displayed in the housing office for public viewing.
How do I apply for family housing on this base?
Eligible members may submit an advance application (DD Form 1746) to the gaining installation for FH any time after receipt of PCS or active duty orders.

How do I know that my family housing application has been received by this base's Housing Office?
Housing management forwards DD Form 1747, Status of Housing Availability, to the member outlining the housing situation at the gaining base. This is normally accomplished within two duty days of receiving an advance application for housing.
How do I request specific housing amenities that are needed due to a dependents medical condition?
The Hospital commander must attest to the necessity of such a request

Approximately between 1 – 15 months
How many offers can I refuse without going off the waiting list?
Members may exercise a turndown option. This option should be exercised only once without the member being removed from the waiting list. If a member refuses housing a second time, he or she will be removed from the waiting list and is not permitted to reapply for 90 days.
I am a single, pregnant service member, with no dependents. Can my name be placed on the family housing waiting list prior to the birth?
A single pregnant member may apply for housing 60 days prior to expected delivery date. A physician statement is required to certify pregnancy and anticipated delivery date. The member will not be assigned housing until authorized with-dependent BAH.
I am on the family housing waiting list and will be on leave or TDY. What are my options?
The only option you have is to check back with the housing office if there was an offered made at the time of your leave or TDY.
I submitted an advance housing application. At what point am I eligible to be offered family housing on this base?
The Housing AFI covering advance applications was changed in August 2006. The effective date of advance application is now the date the applicant departs the losing installation. You are eligible to be offered family housing on the day of your arrival at the gaining installation, if there is an available house in your grade category.
I will be getting married in the near future and currently have no dependents. Can my name be placed on the family housing waiting list prior to the event?
A member with a pending marriage date may submit an application for housing 60 days before the marriage. A written statement with the member's intent to marry and the date of the event accompanies the application and member provides proof of marriage before housing assignment.
If my family moves into family housing can we move to economy quarters at a later date?
Military members may voluntarily terminate FH for personal reasons after fulfillment of the mandatory one-year tenancy.
May I apply for fewer bedrooms than my entitlement?
A member may voluntarily apply for and be assigned FH that has one bedroom less than their entitlement, provided such housing exists within their grade category.
My dependents will not join me until a later date. When am I eligible to obtain family housing on this base?
All members of the military service on active duty and eligible for BAH at the with-dependent rate (except for military-to-military) and accompanied by dependents (or will be within 30 days) are eligible for FH.
My household goods will not fit in family housing, can some be stored?
Household goods in excess to needs may be stored at government expense while the member occupies government-owned. Members request non-temp storage (NTS) approval through housing management. When a member voluntarily vacates government quarters, NTS is not authorized. A member must notify housing management 30 days after housing assignment
What additional information should be submitted with my family housing application?
A physician’s statement is required to confirm pregnancy. A written statement from the Military Personnel Flight serves as proof of selection for promotion.
What waiting list will I be placed on?
Housing management maintains specific waiting lists by grade, bedroom requirement, and type of housing requested. Each family member, exclusive of spouse, is assigned a bedroom if existing housing inventory permits.
Where do I go to find out about housing once I permanently arrive at this base?

Who is eligible to apply for family housing on this base?
All members of the military service who are commissioned officers, warrant officers, and enlisted personnel on active duty and eligible for BAH at the with-dependent rate and accompanied by dependents are eligible for FH.
Will I be able to leave my family in housing when I leave PCS for my child/children to complete a school term?
Commanders are authorized to approve a written request for retention if a dependent student would lose credit if required to withdraw or transfer.
Will the government pay for my move on base?
When a house is available upon arrival, you will be using your PCS orders to have your household goods delivered. Local moves from community housing to government-controlled or leased housing are paid on a one-time basis after PCS.
